Film version[]
In the version of the song used in the film adaptation of The Wall, the line at the end of the second verse is changed from "Is it just a waste of time?" to "Mother, am I really dying?" This change was made to complement the scene that plays in the movie during this song, where Pink is shown struck by illness after attempting to help a sick rat recover.

The Lockdown Sessions[]
"Mother" is one of six tracks written or co-written by Waters that was selected to appear on his 2022 album The Lockdown Sessions. This version of the track begins with a 13 second vocal introduction passage that ends with Waters doing a rock countdown. Gilmour's vocal parts are taken on by Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of the indie pop band Lucius. The guitar solo, which is largely unchanged from the original, is played by Jonathan Wilson, who played on Waters' 2017 solo album Is This the Life We Really Want? and appeared on his Us + Them and This Is Not a Drill tours.
