Composed by keyboardist Richard Wright with lyrics supplied by collaborator Anthony Moore, it is the only song on The Division Bell not to feature a writing credit for guitarist David Gilmour. It is also the first song to feature Wright on lead vocals since "Time" from the 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon.
